Gen 2 range at a glance

This page only rolls National Dex numbers #152–251 (Generation 2). That covers the full Johto Pokedex from Chikorita to Celebi.

Roll sizeTypical use
1Single encounter, shiny hunt seed, art prompt
6Full Johto challenge team or dual-region squad
9Draft pools or "pick X from the list" rules

Gold and Silver version exclusives are not split—reroll if your rule needs a specific version.

Build a useful Johto-only challenge

This generator treats Generation 2 as the group of species that debuted with National Dex #152–251. That distinction matters because the Johto games also contain many Kanto species. If your rule says “Gen 2 Pokémon only,” this page is the clean pool. If your rule says “anything obtainable in Gold, Silver, or Crystal,” you need a game-specific encounter list instead.

Use one roll for prompts and six for a party

A single result works well for a mascot, fan-art prompt, themed nickname exercise, or one random teammate. Six results create a complete Johto-debut squad without repeated manual picking. For group challenges, generate a larger draft pool and agree on the selection rule before anyone sees the results; that makes the random step meaningful instead of encouraging endless rerolls.

Remember that evolution families cross generations

Generation 2 introduced baby Pokémon and new evolutions connected to earlier families. This page still follows debut generation, so an evolutionary relationship does not automatically pull a Gen 1 species into the pool. That makes the boundary predictable, but it also means the output is not the same thing as a complete Johto regional Pokédex or an in-game encounter table.

Filters use the site’s current data model

Type, stats, abilities, forms, rarity, and other advanced filters are evaluated using the project’s structured dataset. They are useful for modern planning and themed randomization, but they do not recreate every historical Gold, Silver, or Crystal mechanic. Version exclusives, original move availability, encounter locations, and older battle rules should be checked separately when your challenge depends on them.

Continue from a random roll

If the six results look interesting, send the idea to the Team Planner for manual refinement. Use Compare Pokémon to inspect candidates side by side, or the Type Chart to spot obvious defensive and offensive patterns. For route-based randomness rather than a debut-generation pool, the Nuzlocke Generator is the more appropriate workflow.

Common questions

Does this only include Gen 2?

Yes. IDs stay between #152 and #251—no Kanto-only or later mix-ins.

Is this a ROM randomizer?

No. Browser picker only—it does not patch saves or ROM files.

How is this different from a spin wheel?

Wheels give you a name spin. Here you get sprites, types, and Dex numbers for immediate challenge use.

Can I roll shinies?

Turn on Show shiny sprites before generating. It displays shiny art when PokeAPI has it.

Can I build a six-mon team here?

Yes. Use the 6-mon team preset or set amount to 6.
