Pokemon Nature Chart and Calculator

Use this Pokemon nature chart to see which stat every nature raises and lowers. Select a nature, filter the full list, or enter a hypothetical stat value to preview the final 10% modifier before planning a moveset or EV spread.

Columns show the stat that receives the 10% boost. Rows show the stat that receives the 10% reduction. Choose any name in the matrix to inspect it.

How to Read the Pokemon Nature Chart

  1. Find the stat you want to increase across the top of the matrix.
  2. Find the stat you can afford to lower down the left side.
  3. Select the nature where that column and row meet.

For example, Adamant sits at the intersection of boosted Attack and lowered Special Attack. That tradeoff is usually efficient for a physical attacker that never selects a special move. The matrix does not decide a build for you; it makes the tradeoff visible.

Choosing a Nature by Role

  • Physical offense: Adamant for damage, Jolly for Speed.
  • Special offense: Modest for damage, Timid for Speed.
  • Physical defense: Bold or Impish, depending on the attacking stat you can drop.
  • Special defense: Calm or Careful for the same reason.
  • Trick Room: Brave, Quiet, Relaxed, or Sassy deliberately lower Speed.

The best choice depends on a real matchup or Speed threshold. A faster nature can be more valuable than a stronger one when it changes which Pokémon moves first.

What the Stat Preview Calculates

The calculator takes one hypothetical non-HP stat after the rest of the build has been calculated, applies the nature multiplier, and rounds down. A value of 100 becomes 110 when boosted or 90 when lowered.

This narrow scope is intentional. For an actual Pokémon, level, base stat, IVs, EVs and other modifiers must be considered first. Use the IV Calculator for IV-related work and the Team Planner to attach a nature to a complete set.

Pokemon Nature Chart for FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald

Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are Generation 3 games, the generation that introduced the 25-nature system. This Pokemon nature chart uses the same boost-and-drop relationships those games use: Adamant raises Attack and lowers Special Attack, Jolly raises Speed and lowers Special Attack, Modest raises Special Attack and lowers Attack, and Timid raises Speed and lowers Attack.

The five neutral natures—Hardy, Docile, Serious, Bashful, and Quirky—also work the same way in those games: they do not change battle stats. Use the Pokemon nature chart above for individual lookups such as Serious, Sassy, Relaxed, or Hasty instead of treating each nature as a separate ruleset.

Nature Mints are a later mechanic, so they are not part of a FireRed, LeafGreen, or Emerald build. The mint explanation below is relevant only when you are playing a title that actually supports Mints; the underlying nature relationships in the Pokemon nature chart remain the reference point.

Natures, Flavors, and Mints

Non-neutral natures also carry flavor preferences associated with the same boosted and lowered stat pair. The cards expose those preferences as a quick reference, while the battle-focused calculator only changes stats.

A Nature Mint changes which stat modifiers are used, but it does not rewrite the nature name shown in the summary. This page therefore separates the nature label from the practical stat effect instead of treating them as the same piece of data.

Pokemon Nature Chart FAQ

What does a Pokemon nature change in battle?

A Pokemon's nature raises one non-HP battle stat by 10% (1.1× multiplier) and lowers another by 10% (0.9× multiplier), while five neutral natures cause no stat changes.

Which five Pokemon natures are neutral?

Hardy, Docile, Serious, Bashful, and Quirky are the five neutral natures that have no positive or negative stat modifiers.

What is the difference between Adamant and Jolly natures?

Adamant raises physical Attack while lowering Special Attack, whereas Jolly raises Speed while lowering Special Attack to help outspeed key threats.

What is the difference between Modest and Timid natures?

Modest raises Special Attack while lowering physical Attack, whereas Timid raises Speed while lowering Attack for faster special sweepers.

How do Nature Mints work in Pokémon games?

Nature Mints introduced in Sword & Shield alter the stat calculation effects to match a desired nature while keeping the original summary screen nature name unchanged.

How do natures affect Pokémon berry and flavor preferences?

Each boosted stat associates with a preferred flavor (Attack likes Spicy, Defense likes Sour, Sp. Atk likes Dry, Sp. Def likes Bitter, Speed likes Sweet), causing pinch berries to trigger confusion if the nature dislikes that flavor.

Can Pokémon inherit natures through breeding?

Yes, giving an Everstone to a breeding parent guarantees that its exact nature will be passed down to 100% of the hatched offspring.

Can you calculate exact Pokémon stat changes with this chart?

Yes, the built-in nature preview applies the 1.1× boost and 0.9× penalty against customizable base values so you can observe the exact 10% nature modifier.

Is this Pokemon nature chart mobile-friendly and free to use?

Yes, this Pokemon nature chart is 100% free with responsive touch buttons, interactive filtering, and instant stat previews across all mobile and desktop devices.
