Instant random squad

Random Pokemon Team Generator

Generate a random squad by team size, generation, type and legendary rules. Review the result, then open the same picks in the manual Team Planner when you want to add moves and sets.

Random team generator vs. team planner

This page is a random Pokemon team generator: it automatically chooses a squad from the pool you define. It is useful when the point is surprise—challenge runs, drawing prompts, draft ideas, casual battles or deciding which unfamiliar Pokémon to try next.

The Pokemon Team Planner serves a different task. It starts with six editable slots and lets you choose each Pokémon, ability, item, nature, EV preset, Tera type and four moves. Generate here first when you want an unexpected starting point; move the result into the planner when you want to turn those names into detailed sets.

How this random Pokemon team generator works

Choose a team size from one to six, then narrow the eligible pool by generation, type and legendary status. The matching-pool counter shows how many default-form Pokémon still satisfy the active rules. When you select No duplicate typings, the generator avoids repeating the same complete typing combination within that roll.

Each result is sampled without replacement, so the same Pokémon will not appear twice in one generated squad. The analysis below the cards summarizes types already present, repeated defensive weaknesses and offensive types not represented by the generated Pokémon's native typings. It is a quick planning signal, not a competitive damage calculation.

Ways to use a random Pokemon team

  • Challenge runs: roll a six-member squad before starting and commit to the result.
  • Generation-only teams: restrict the pool to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn or another generation.
  • Monotype inspiration: require one type, then review the secondary typings you receive.
  • Art and writing prompts: generate one to six characters without manually browsing the Pokédex.
  • Team-building practice: send the random picks into the planner and try to solve their shared weaknesses with moves, items and roles.

Common questions

How do I generate a random Pokemon team?

Choose team size, set generation, type and legendary rules, then select Generate Team. You can reroll, copy the names, download the sprites or open the current result in the Team Planner.

Can I export to Pokemon Showdown?

This page copies Pokémon names only. Paste those names into Showdown and add legal moves, items, abilities, EVs and formats yourself. The generator does not claim that a random result is battle-ready.

Does the team generator support all generations?

Yes. The pool covers the National Dex through Generation 9, and the generation selector can limit a roll to one generation. For a dedicated Paldea pool, see the Gen 9 random Pokémon page.

What is the difference between the Team Generator and Team Planner?

The Team Generator automatically rolls Pokémon. The Team Planner is for manual editing, moves, items, abilities, natures, EV presets, Tera types and deeper team analysis.

Is this an AI team builder?

No. The tool samples from the filtered dataset; it does not use AI to recommend competitive combinations or predict battle performance.

How do I share results?

Use Copy names for a text list, Download sprites for an image, or Open this team in Team Planner to create a shareable planner state with the same Pokémon preloaded.

Need a broader pool? Use the main Random Pokemon Generator. Need detailed sets? Continue in the Team Planner.
